A Note from the Dean

Our November 13 Members' Recital held at the Huguenot Memorial Church was well received by all. Thanks again to Kathryn Jones for making this event possible.  Pictured below are the four recitalists: Terence J. Flanagan (your Dean), Ruaraidh Sutherland (Director of Music - Christ's Church, Rye), Frank Miller, and Kathy Jones (Director of Music Ministries - Huguenot Memorial Church). Music of Krebs, Vierne, Bach, Chochereau, Parry and some improvising was heard.

As we now enter one of the most meaningful and busiest times of the year, I wish each of you the best with the music of the season. My hope is that you will find some time as well to relax and enjoy as we enter the new year. Perhaps our next event, the Twelfth Night Party hosted by Dr. Robert Chase at his home in White Plains, will offer this opportunity with the added benefit of conversation among friends. Please R.S.V.P. to me (see below) and send Frank Miller an email at if you are willing to bring a side dish or dessert so that we can ensure a balanced offering. I hope to see you there.

The Lesson

I had practiced hard all week long,
  didn't want anything to go wrong.
I had practiced not too slow or fast,
   no mistakes this week - not like the last.
I kept my arms and hands completely level,
   felt strong enough to beat even the devil.
This week - no mistakes or bloops;
   no reason to apologize with an "oops!"
I placed all the music up on the rack;
   I know it all from front to the back.
Some perspiration dropped and fell in a vent,
   and in walked my student a friend had sent...
