Holding On and Moving On:
Strategies to help students hold onto their learning and tips for transitioning graduates

This will be our last Roundtable discussion group before the summer holiday, so please join us to discuss ways to prevent summer learning loss and the importance of early planning for the transition to college.

Our facilitator, Andrew Stock, PsyD (Clinical) will offer us some pointers and then we will move on to discuss those issues that concern us most.

Topics to explore include:
  • Finding the right balance between reinforcement of academics and time to recharge
  • Cultivating self-advocacy
  • Developing a college transition plan (hint: start a early in high school)
This will be a highly interactive session appropriate for parents of primary school children, tweens and adolescents.

Parents say these interactive sessions are one of the most valuable programs FOCUS offers because they come away knowing they are not alone in the often-difficult journey of raising a child with Specific Learning and Attentional Difficulties.
Andrew was born and grew up in Perth, and received his BSc while majoring in psychology from the University of Western Australia.  After graduating, he worked in correctional services with inmates and their families just outside of Perth.  Andrew then pursued and received his masters and doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University.
Andrew has worked in Hong Kong for six years in schools and NGOs, providing child, adolescent and family counselling, working on multidisciplinary teams, and implementing empirically supported social and emotional learning programs. He has worked specifically with children, adolescents and families facing a variety of challenges for over 10 years.  Andrew also has ample experience working with children, adults and families in Hong Kong who are dealing with bereavement and loss.
