My fellow Eaton County Republicans:

Now is a great time to be a Republican in Eaton County. Our State Senator, both State Representatives, County Prosecutor and Clerk, as well as 9 of 15 county commissioners are all Republicans. We are a strong, cohesive group that understands the strength of our nation lies in the individual's right to the pursuit of life, liberty, property and happiness. The Party of Lincoln believes the role of government should be limited to the powers enumerated in the Constitution, because government that governs least, governs best.

There are exciting things happening and we'd love to have you be part of the fun! As Chair of the county party, once a month, I meet with precinct delegates and local Republicans at their local coffee shop to discuss the hot political topics of the day. You will usually receive a phone call 2-3 days before the event when it's being held in your neighborhood. Drop by, and bring a friend!

The local party made some positive strides in 2016, and you can help us build on these successes by getting involved. We need to work together to bring back strong representation at the local level. Please visit our website and sign-up to volunteer or make a donation today. Your contributions will help elect candidates who understand what it means to be a Republican in an era where liberals run around with pink hats and crude signs!

Chairman, Eaton County Republican Party

Legislative Updates
Eaton County has great representation in State Representatives Barrett and Roberts, and Senator Jones. Here are some of the bills they are currently working on in our state legislature:
HB 4105 - Sponsored by Rep. Hornberger, this bill would essentially ban sanctuary cities from the state of Michigan. Rep. Barrett is a co-sponsor.

HB 4334 - Rep. LaFave's bill specifically prohibits local governments from establishing sanctuary cities.

HB 4081 - Rep. Barrett's bill would make it easier for charities to raise money through charitable gambling. The bill was passed out of committee, and now advances to the House floor for consideration.

HB 4181 - Rep. Roberts' bill to give students better access to college and career counseling was passed unanimously out of committee, and advances to the House floor.

SB 0262 - Sen. Jones' bill is part of a package known as "Wyatt's Law," and would create and maintain a database of individuals convicted of child abuse.

Executive Committee
The Eaton County Republican Party Executive Committee meets on the first Thursday of every month at Tony M’s (3420 S Creyts Rd) in Lansing. Our next meeting will be held on May 4 at 7 PM. Come early to order food and meet other Republicans!

Finance
In addition to working on the upcoming Lincoln Tribute Dinner, the Finance committee was also pleased to report that Lieutenant Governor Brian Calley will be the speaker at our summer picnic.

GOTV - Get Out The Vote
The GOTV committee has been hard at work energizing our precinct delegates.  Our goal to give all of options to  choose from so there's something that will interest you.  So far we have the following opportunities:

  • Attend a local government meeting - We encourage you to attend local meetings on the party's behalf.
  • Datacenter - Sign up for Datacenter from the Michigan Republican Party, and start using it to find more activist and grow the party.
  • PD Training - Our next quarterly Precinct Delegate Training will be on June 1 at 6 PM at Tony M's before the monthly Executive Committee meeting.
  • Engagement - We will be reaching out to all of you to help getting things start on identifying potential activist in your area.
Candidate Assistance
Meetings are held the last Thursday of the Month at Fireside Grill, and all are welcome. If you are interested in running for local office, let us know!

Communications
Last month, the Communications Committee successfully launched the new Eaton County GOP website at www.EatonCountyGOP.com. Additionally, we are hard at work preparing for the Lincoln Tribute dinner, and working on tutorials to help you write letters to the editor.

Stay tuned!
