Ministry Reviews
All clergy and SPR Chairs are reminded that Ministry Review forms are due in Data Services by October 10.  Unless you are a pastor in your first year of an appointment, there are separate forms for the pastor and the committee; however, the pastor must review and approve the SPR Form.
Charge Conference
The SouthWest District is once again conducting Charge Conferences in groups via Zoom on Sundays October 23, October 30 and November 6.  All charge conference forms and paperwork must be completed and submitted 2 weeks prior to the conference.  Links to the Zoom meetings will be sent to pastors who should then forward the link to the leaders of the church.

For detailed information on the various reports and paperwork due, please visit the Reports Due page of the district website,  There you will find the Charge Conference Checklist, Charge Conference Schedule, and Charge Conference Instructions.
Fearless Dialogues - Diving Deeper

Saturday, November 5 will be the final installment of the Southwest District Fearless Dialogues workshops that began in February.  This session will be led by Rev. Brian Tillman, Conference Director of Inclusion and Advocacy, who will lead the group in considering concrete steps as we lead our congregations and communities toward racial healing and reconciliation. Participation in previous workshops is not required.

Fresh Expressions wants to put you on the map!  We are gathering information and mapping out where all of our SouthWest District Fresh Expressions are taking place.  If you currently have a Fresh Expression of church, please share your information with Rev. Allyson Lawrence, SouthWest District Cultivator.

If you are interested in starting a Fresh Expression or learning more about Fresh Expressions of Church, contact Allyson.  She is excited to meet with you and to share more information.  You can reach out to her at

Clergy Ethics Training
The North Georgia Annual Conference is hosting in-person Clergy Ethics trainings between January 23 and March 25, 2023.  All sessions will be held from 9am to 4pm, with the exception of the Sunday session on March 12 that will be from 2pm to 8pm.  Attendees MUST be present for the entire training. Cost is $100 and includes lunch, material, and the processing of a background check.  Participants will also receive 0.6 Continuing Education Units.

The session being offered in the SouthWest District will be held at Newnan First UMC on Monday, January 23; however, if you cannot attend on that day, you may participate in any of the other locations.  There is a limit of participants in each class, so register NOW!

This is required for every person under appointment in order to be in good standing and eligible to continue to serve, regardless of pastoral status.

Rooted Retreats
October 28-30 and November 4-6
Rooted Retreats are the North Georgia Conference fall youth retreats. Rooted provides powerful worship experiences, dedicated youth group time, fun activities, as well as food and lodging at Glisson Camp and Retreat Center. Rooted retreats are focused on group formation and community involvement and outreach. The two Rooted weekends are very similar in structure and schedule--we have two so that everyone will have a chance to attend!  Rooted retreats will provide a powerful retreat experience where youth leaders and volunteers can spend their time developing and strengthening relationships while we take care of the details. This will be a time to foster connection and allow the youth leader to be fully present with students and volunteers.

North Georgia Conference retired clergy and surviving spouses are invited to a Thankful-for-You Luncheon on Wednesday, November 16, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Dunwoody UMC.
RSVP by November 2.
