Happy Spring! Being a relative newcomer to the area I have been thoroughly enjoying our early spring weather, while trying not to taunt friends and family in Portland and on the East coast too much. (Although it is snowing as I write this!) How lucky we are to be in this glorious area that inspires and helps make every day just a little bit better.
Jack Seibold's exhibit, "Metal, etc." was a great success. Although some of his work will be replaced by our next exhibit, we will continue have a nice selection of sculpture by this talented artist. Jack's show catalog will be uploaded to the website in the next week or two, so be sure to take a look if you would like to purchase or just revisit this exhibit.
We have rehung the whole gallery with "New Works". Several new artists have joined our "family" and many of our long standing gallery artists have sent new pieces, so we will be loaded with plenty of wonderful, brand new art. Be sure to come for our opening on March 31, 2017, from 5-8pm.
Also, during our opening, Taylor Ehrhart, owner of Tae's Teas, Cedar City's very own tea room, will be here sampling teas and sharing info about her new shop. If you love tea, or have been thinking about "crossing over", she's the gal to talk to!
We have extended the deadline until April 15, for our two artist calls. For more information about "That Looks Sketchy" and "To be or Not to Be", please visit the website.
If you were wondering what "pentachromacy" meant and "reliquaries" are, we have added an art terminology page to our website. We look up a lot of "stuff" around here, so when our intern from last semester (and an art history major) came on board, we took advantage of her fine SUU education and had her get this started. The result is a list of general art terms, including many specific to our artists' work. If you are wondering about some others, we will connect you with Alexys! (Just kidding Alexys!) Feel free to ask next time you're in, and we will try to answer.
We have our show schedule set for the year, so please mark your calendars! Also, Final Friday Art Walks start on June 30, 2017. Great news, too, as an additional Friday has been added and there will be an Art Walk in September.
