"TELL THEM WE ARE RISING"

In honor of Black History Month we are recognizing the namesake of Wright Hall.  Founder of National Freedom Day (Feb 1) and valedictorian of the first graduating class of Atlanta University,  Major Richard R. Wright Sr.  Learn more about him and his many accomplishments here.

When retired Union General Oliver Otis Howard visited Atlanta University in 1868 and asked the students what message he should take to the North, Wright replied, “Sir, tell them we are rising.”
