Top Stories of 2016

As 2016 comes to a close, we would like to share some of our biggest headlines of the year. They highlight the successes of our alumni, students, and faculty, recognize the losses of valued members of our community, and showcase our university’s accomplishments.

Largest graduating class since 1977

In spring 2016, the University of Manitoba presented degrees, diplomas, and certificates to 3,040 graduates—the largest class since 1977.  ”You are joining an inspiring and illustrious group of men and women,” President and Vice-Chancellor David Barnard told graduating students.

In separate ceremonies, the School of Agriculture presented Diplomas in Agriculture to 70 students, and the newly renamed Rady College of Medicine recognized 106 new doctors. The university also presented honorary degrees to six noteworthy individuals.
