BIPV – Bridging the Gap between PV Industry Supply and Construction Industry Demand

Organized by: IEA PVPS Task 15, Zuyd University of Applied Science. and the EU PVSEC

BIPV is seen as one of the key development tracks of PV towards mass application. One of the main challenges for the BIPV community is bridging the gap between the highly innovative and fast changing PV supply side and the solid construction industry demand side. In this interactive seminar, a number of international players from both the BIPV community and the construction industry will present the gaps and provide bridges to facilitate the increase of BIPV deployment.

Day:Tuesday, 26 September 2017
Time: 13:30 - 16:45
Site: Auditorium G106, First Floor
Access: Open to all registered participants

Stefan Novak
IEA PVPS Chair
Managing Director of NET Nowak Energy & Technology, Switzerland
Stefan Nowak is an experimental physicist by training with a PhD from Fribourg University and EPFL, Switzerland. His academic research activities covered thermonuclear fusion, plasma and surface physics as well as thin films. Stefan has been working in renewable energy and energy efficiency for more than 25 years with a particular focus and expertise in photovoltaic (PV) solar electricity. Covering the full PV value chain from research to the market, including policy and communication, he is an expert and advisor to many different national and international organisations. 20 years ago, he founded NET Nowak Energy & Technology Ldt., a consultancy specialized in renewable energy, energy and resource efficiency. Stefan serves as a program manager for the Swiss PV RTD programme, coordinator of various PV related EU projects with more than 20 EU ministries and agencies as well as chairman of the IEA PVPS, one of the largest of its kind within the IEA. The responsibility for this programme over the past 15 years has led to a large network, numerous contacts, experiences and travels related to PV technology and deployment in all 5 continents.

In search of new solutions... How to lower barriers for large scale PV plants?
Introducing the new IEA PVPS Task 16 on Solar Resource Forecasting

As the penetration of PV increases, improved accuracy and finer spatial and temporal resolution of solar data sets are needed to optimize the performance of these technologies in the energy system of a particular region or country.
We are happy to announce the start of the new IEA PVPS Task 16. Its international team will research new methods and improve existing ones to increase PV yield and reliability. International collaboration and consensus on developing and managing these data sets will expedite the high penetration of solar technologies, and improve markets for these technologies. Large scale PV plants now need accurate resource and forecast data due to high investment costs. Large scale PV plants now need accurate resource and forecast data due to high investment costs.

IEA PVPS Task 16 MAIN GOALS are to lower barriers and costs of grid integration for PV,  lowering planning and investment costs for PV systems by enhancing the quality of the forecasts and the resources assesments.

The WORK PROGRAMME addresses on one side the scientific meteorological and climatological issues to high penetration of utility-scale PV in electricity grids, but also includes a strong focus on user needs and for the first time a special dissemination subtask.

TASK PARTICIPANTS will focus on the two following scientific challenges :
  • High frequency variability and solar forecasts for managing grids with high penetration of PV and local storage
  • High quality solar resource assessments and forecasts for solar installations notably in the utility-scale segment (multi-MW PV system size)

3rd PV & Utilities Workshop
After two successful workshops dedicated to exchange on PV businesses for electric utilities, IEA PVPS has decided to organize a third one.

“How Utilities can Incorporated Photovoltaics in their Business Deals”

It will take place on December 12, 2017, 10:00 am to 4:30 pm, at Wien Energie, Thomas Klestil Platz 14, 1030 Vienna, Austria.

This workshop offers a forum for exchange of experience on how photovoltaics and related energy services can be incorporated in order to offer new business opportunities for utilities. Experts from various European utilities will come together to exchange ideas and discuss new ways to develop renewable energy services based on PV technology.
