MEMBER AND PARTNER MEETING 2019
AIDS Action Europe would like to thank to all our members and partners for their participation and support in our Member and Partner Meeting 2019!
Criminalisation of HIV non-disclosure, exposure and transmission – one could think that this is not an issue anymore. The contrary is true: It is a growing phenomenon in our region that has direct and deep impact on human rights. 

This is why the AIDS Action Europe Steering Committee decided to take this topic up in its 2019 Member and Partner Meeting and combine it with partner notification and the impact criminalisation has on partner notification. The meeting took place in Berlin on Saturday, October 19 and was attended by 41 participants representing member and partner organisations from 23 countries from the WHO European Region.

Criminalisation of HIV in Europe: preliminary findings

In 2018 - 2019 AIDS Action Europe, a member of HIV Justice Worldwide Steering Committee, with its work focused on the situation with HIV criminalisation in EU countries. 10 members from EU countries participated in this round: Austria,  Czechia, Finland, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Romania and the United Kingdom. The countries provided answers to a legal survey, which included questions on existing laws, number of known HIV-prosecutions, what role media play, whether scientific developments like HIV transmission ways and U=U are taken into account etc.

The final report will be available in early 2020, but you can read about preliminary findings under the link below.

We hope it will be useful for individuals and organisations working to end or mitigate the harm of HIV criminalisation around the world, as well as for others with an interest in HIV and human rights issues.

Making Media Work for HIV Justice

This publication provides resources from all over the world to assist advocates in approaching a range of advocacy targets, including lawmakers, prosecutors and judges, the police, and the media. The purpose of this critical media toolkit is to inform and equip global grassroots advocates who are engaged in media response to HIV criminalisation–and to demystify the practice of working with, and through, media to change the conversation around criminalisation.
