Note from the Founder

A Legacy of Purposeful and Meaningful Work!

Next Step Up celebrated its eight year (8th) of service this January. For the past eight years our volunteers have been dedicating their time, love, skills, and knowledge to empower Tuskegee's youth, but it doesn't stop there. Next Step Up has worked to become an integral part of the Tuskegee community. We have partnered with churches, with food banks, and with local nursing homes; we have helped with community gardening and have led community beautification efforts. We have participated in numerous community activities and continue to expand our reach each and every day!

We engage in purposeful and meaningful work and hope to leave behind a legacy of excellence that will radiate throughout each and every community we touch. This newsletter provides an update on our recent activities and demonstrates how we mentor, tutor, and change lives! Enjoy!

Next Step Up Celebrates 8 Years of Service
On our Jan 21st meeting, we celebrated 8 years of service with a mass meeting followed by a celebration. Next Step Up was founded in 2010 to provide an avenue for Tuskegee University students to interact with the Tuskegee community and to provide mentoring and tutoring for local high school students. The program has grown and expanded over the past 8 years. We look forward to many more years of service!
Valentine's Day Card Giveaway at Nursing Home
For the third year, Next Step Up student's made personalized Valentine's day cards to give to seniors in a local nursing home. Our volunteers passed out these cards on Valentine's Day. Our volunteers are pictured above.
Black History Month Celebration
The Next Step Up mentorship committee hosted a Black History Month panel for high school students to showcase the "living black history and accomplishments" of Tuskegee University students and to encourage high school students to strive for excellence.
After-School Program Tutorials
The high school students are continuing to work to improve their grades and test prep as they strive to reach their "next step."
