October 1, 2019

It’s October, so it must be Charge Conference Season!  This year we are celebrating the ministry of our local churches, and every church is asked to share just one exciting vital ministry in which they are engaged.  This opportunity allows the other church representatives present to hear a variety of creative ministries that are taking place across our district.  They may even be inspired to start a new ministry in their own context based on what they hear!
We are also naming all of those who have been baptized into the Christian faith, professed their faith in Christ, and have entered into the Church Triumphant through death.  It is powerful to hear these names read.  It is important to lift these names in an intentional manner, because it reminds us that God knows each and every one of us by name and calls us by name.
One of the most powerful stories in scripture is when Mary went to the tomb on that first Easter morning.  She has grief-stricken, and that grief only deepened when she saw the stone rolled away and thought someone had stolen the body of Jesus.  Her eyes were so clouded with tears that even when she first saw the risen Christ, she did not recognize him.  But then he called her name, “MARY.” And she saw and she believed.  Her sadness turned to joy; her grief fell away; exultation replaced desperation.  All because he called her name.
We are all God’s beloved children, and it is our mission to help others know that God knows them intimately, loves them with an everlasting love and calls their name.
I’m grateful for your witness and dedication to proclaiming the name of Jesus and calling others by name!
Congratulations to Rev. Melanie Stanley-Soulen as she will be serving as the Chaplain at Wesley Woods Mountain Village in Blairsville, GA. Melanie moved to Young Harris over the summer to join her husband, Rev. Stephen Soulen, at Sharp Memorial. We are excited for Melanie to bring her gifts to the Mountain Village community as their first Chaplain!

Thank you Clarkesville First for hosting our first Charge Conference of the year and thank you to all of the churches in Connection Groups # 2, 3, 4.
