To my subscribers: MailChimp had a meltdown last Thursday which, for me, has extended into today. Hence the delay in this newsletter. Read on!

This is a photo of the north polar vortex on Saturn. I did not take this picture. NASA did on 27 November 2012. It is an excellent depiction of what my mind looks like right now.

For these past weeks, I've been absorbed / obsessed / unable to get away from the rewriting of my novel manuscript Peace Court. I have, as Jo March would say, fallen into a writing vortex. Yesterday, I submitted my first chapters to a writing contest. Today, I'm going to redo my schedule to see exactly how many more writing days I have before take-off. Can I finish on time? I won't have a choice. No way am I going to be able to recall where I left off after 7 months of travel.

All this is a roundabout way of saying: I have no blog for you this week. Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa. I did have an idea and the start of my research but the road to hell is paved with good intentions and here we are.

If you are desperate for something to read, then I recommend The Master's Review July list of New Writing on the Web. Every month, a curator culls prose work published online, be it fiction or nonfiction. Kimberly Guerin was the curator for July and she picked my essay "The Mapmaker", published by The Common on July 11. Yoohoo! If you've already read my essay, then you can check out the other 5 works in the July list.

Next week, I promise you'll have a blog post to read. In the meantime, you might start getting used to the idea of a little more irregularity in your life. I do intend to blog while we travel but (a) see above and (b) who knows with what frequency? Get ready.
