Red qipao

This week's news from:
 Shanghai Lady

This is a photo of my parents at their engagement party. Aren't they cute? My Dad's looking quite handsome but really it's Mom who steals the show in her flaming red qipao. That's the theme of this week's blog post: Qipao.

The inspiration for this blog post is my BFF Rozanne. She asked me whether I had made costume sketches for my characters. If pigs could fly! But I did spend a decent amount of time thinking about what people in Shanghai would have worn in the 1930s, although as you will see, some of that thinking was pretty off-base.

Speaking of which, last week saw the airing of my first video interview a/k/a vlog. It's pretty scary but I'll share it with you anyway. You might need to turn up the volume when the trams come by!

No volume controls needed to read this latest review, published in the expat newspaper Holland Times

Not to be outdone by all these professional reviewers who've showered praise on my book, I've posted my own review of Such Small Hands. It's a jewel of a horror story written by Spaniard Andres Barba. I highly recommend it to anyone who likes tales of good little orphan girls. Bwa ha ha.

In the meantime, here's a list of the last bunch of blog posts you may have missed:

Fish
California Dreaming
Show Don’t Tell
All That Jazz
Korea
