Cheesecake and China (by way of Hollywood Boulevard)

Mom in 1957

This week's news from:
 Shanghai Lady

After my recent forays respectively into the world of politics and craft, it's time to come back to my roots in China. Plus, a little cheesecake never hurt the ratings so here's a pic of my Mom when she was just 19 years old. Not bad, hey?

She's the starting point of this week's blog post though not its star. That title goes to Mr. and Mrs. Lem Fong a/k/a my gonggong and popo who once ran a Chinese restaurant on Hollywood Boulevard called: Gong Ho. A blast from a past that no longer exists.

Here in the present I'm struggling with Twitter etiquette. I know you're supposed to "follow" anyone who's deigned to follow you, although that feels somewhat Pavlovian if not positively needy. So when someone tags you in a tweet and you have no idea why, what do you do? I had to turn to one of my publisher's interns, a lovely millennial, who said this is a way to build followers on Twitter. Did you already know? Am I boring you?

You'll see a swanky new format to my website (thanks to the fine folks at All on my own (though it took most of the morning), I've added a new feature that lists all my author events (past, present and future) wherever I might be in the world. Mark your calendars, save the date, book your tickets now!

And don't forget to give my book a rating on Amazon or Goodreads or all of the above.
