My first bookstagram

Shanghai Noir

The Dancing Girl and the Turtle: publication date 01.04.2017

This is my first #bookstagram. It was so much fun to hunt up props, find the right backdrop and shoot lots of pictures. For this final version, I used a cast made our artist friend Mario Molina Espeleta of his own hand and a bookmark distributed a few years ago by my friends Karen and Claudio at a party to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Frankenstein's inception.

Now that my first creature has been born I am, of course, obsessed. 3 #bookstagrams in 1 week. 3 book reviews to go along: Frankenstein in Baghdad by Ahmed Saadawi, Revenge by Yoko Ogawa and Turtles All the Way Down by John Green. Am I on speed? Afraid not. These are the hallmark signs of me, heading off on vacation.

I'll only be gone for a week but I've decided to give myself a real break. So next week, there will be no blog post, #bookstagram or book review. We're headed to the sun where we hope to bask all day long with our nose in a book. Many, many books.

This week's blog post is going to have to do you for a while. Truth or Consequences is about our post-fact world, a circumstance that has been vexing me for some time now. Fact-checkers abound and yet they seem to have no effect at all on the alternative facts, white lies and outright whizzers. I didn't know what to say about that until last week when we happened to see a fantastic production of Oedipus Rex (which I highly recommend). One man's quest for the truth and the unfortunate consequences thereof. Check it out.

See you in two weeks.
