Highlights include:

Activities underway include:

  • Development of a Local Authority Climate Adaptation Programme

New public engagement platform goes live!

A new digital citizens' engagement platform launched on 29 November to gather views on how to tackle the climate crisis has already received 124 contributions.
The Commonplace platform has been created to gather feedback on the ‘Delivering Impact’ sessions being run by the Commission over the next year, which relate to the 50 actions in the Yorkshire and Humber Climate Action Plan.
The platform was launched at an online public event that introduced the first two live topics - retrofitting and regional food systems – and gave a tour of the site. It has had 1,062 visitors and 96 respondents to date, with 240 requesting news updates.
Everyone is encouraged to take part in the live surveys and sign up for alerts by email about new surveys and news items.
You are also requested to add information about local climate change local initiatives, projects and groups to a ‘heat map’, which also allows people to highlight climate impacts in their area.
Join our Commonplace and leave your feedback here: https://yorkshirecap.commonplace.is/
Please share the link with your groups and networks – especially stakeholders, but also those that might not normally engage with climate topics.
Contribute to the Leeds Local Plan – deadline 19 December!

Leeds City Council are proposing significant changes to their local planning policy in response to the climate emergency, and a public consultation is now open on these changes. The Local Plan is important because it shapes development across the city and sets the standards that developers must meet. Leeds has the potential to be a trailblazer for other Local Plans across the Yorkshire and Humber region.
The Yorkshire and Humber Climate Commission is submitting a response, which will be shared on our website and through our social media channels, but you are encouraged to submit your own response, too. You can contribute even if you don’t live or work in Leeds.
To take part, go to the Council’s consultation website. You need to respond before the 19th December - it only takes 10 minutes!
