Join POC in North Sound Region

After the murder of George Floyd, several staff from partner organizations who identify as people of color began to meet regularly to process and support one another.  Holly Martinsen, a Mental Health and Substance Use Disorder Clinician at Lydia Place shares her experience on our blog.

Project Manager Erica Littlewood Receives Child Injury Prevention Award

Safe Kids Washington and Washington’s Child Passenger Safety Program announced this year’s recipients of the Child Injury Prevention Awards, including North Sound ACH project manager Erica Littlewood. The award honors individuals or organizations for outstanding work in keeping children safe from injury. Each year nearly 3,000 Washington children age 0-19 are seriously injured or die due to preventable injuries.

“Washington has many heroes working across the state to make sure communities and families have the information and resources they need to keep our children safe and healthy,” said Will Hitchcock, with the Washington State Department of Health. “This year’s honorees exemplify the work that goes on community to community, that saves and protects our children.”

Erica is awarded for her outstanding work as a include Child Passenger Safety
Technician Instructor.  Erica Littlewood has remained constant in her dedication to child passenger safety since becoming a a car seat technician since 2005, and an instructor since 2011. Today she coordinates the Child Passenger Safety team in Whatcom, Skagit, Island, and San Juan counties. “Northern Washington would not be served in child passenger safety if it weren’t for Erica,” said Shawneri Guzman of South County Fire (and fellow awardee). “Her passion and dedication have prevailed
even in times of hardship and uncertainty.”

Inslee announces Washington's historic commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion

Gov. Jay Inslee announced a historic equity policy package for the upcoming 2021 legislative session, including $365M for equity-related decision packages and budget items. For the first time, the governor directed state agencies to center budgetary decision packages and legislation around equity.

The proposed investments follow an unprecedented year that exposed the inequities that communities of color have faced for generations. These proposals showcase Washington’s commitment to not just changing policies affecting these communities but investing in them as well.  Read more here.
