May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.’ (Romans 15:13)
Trevor Cristin DDE
Diocesan Director of Education
Dear Colleagues

I hope you had a refreshing half term break and managed to find time away from school and the demands of leadership.  The next half term is a busy but hopefully, joyous time for school communities but it will still be demanding for headteachers, staff and governors.  So I urge you to pace and look after yourselves as you immerse yourself in the excitement of this time of year.

SIAMS UPDATE
As you will be aware a new Church of England Education Office (CEEO) team has taken over all the administration and management of SIAMS from this September.  Inspections resume this term and the names of those schools who are likely to be inspected have been published on the CEEO website.  The national team have revised the Evaluation Schedule and some policies and written several new documents to reflect the changes they have made. We have links to all these documents on the SIAMS page of our website. We have also produced new DOC SIAMS templates and guidance documents which are available to download from our website. We recommend you visit our website and familiarise yourself with the current SIAMS information and key documents.

New Resources
The Church of England Education Office have released their new guidance on Collective Worship in schools: Church of England - Inclusive Invitational Inspiring -CW Guidance May 2021

Resources on our website: Collective Worship, SIAMS, RE, RHSE and School Effectiveness

The 'Bullying and Belief Toolkit' is now available here : It address the issue of bullying linked to belief and includes lessons and assemblies.

RE Training - see Diocesan Training above.  Book through Eventrbrite

We would like each school, where possible, to have a generic 'Head of RE' email address to combat the bounce backs from staff/name changes of Head of RE/RE Co-ordinators. Please send these email addresses to Yasmin Heasman.

School Assets
VA Capital Funding - School Condition Allocation (SCA - formerly LCVAP)
All VA schools should complete the Capital Premises Development Plan form annually and submit it to the diocese. If you are seeking SCA funding you will also need to complete the section regarding the maintenance and suitability projects which you would like to be considered for SCA funding in 2022/23.
If you have any queries please contact Heather Broadbent at  heather.broadbent@chichester.anglican.orgPlease return your plan by November 8th
Condition Data Collection
Please be aware that the DfE’s consultants have now started tranche 2 of the Condition Data Collection 2 visits. Find out if your school is in tranche 2 click here. The Condition Data Collection informs the DfE on the condition of your school buildings and the rating they apply following the visit affects the amount of School Condition Allocation capital funding provided to either the Diocese for VA schools or the LA for VC schools.

Please note the DfE expect all schools to have an Estate Vision, Estate Strategy and Asset Management Plan  - further information can be found here https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/5f8468c3d3bf7f6ba6e77af1/A_guide_to_strategic_estate_documents.pdf through GEMS (Good Estate Management for Schools).

GEMS (Good Estate Management for Schools) was launched last year and provides some useful guidance, tools and checklists for schools to assist in the management of the school buildings.
This compliance tracker helps ensure that routine inspections and checks are undertaken as required and other DfE tools and checklists can be found here.
The DfE expect schools to managed asbestos in schools effectively and provides guidance here.  Asbestos management will also be covered in the Condition Data Collection visits as will GEMS.
It is of course always good practice for premises managers and SLT to undertake frequent visual checks of all school buildings and grounds to ensure that there are no obvious issues with roofs, windows or pests.
