Pastor’s Note: Rethinking
It has been a challenging nine months, to say the least! I never dreamed that we would have to learn so much or that we would become so dependent on technology to keep us connected!  You have likely noticed that the church has been communicating more by email during this time. One of the blessings of this is that it has saved an enormous amount of paper, postage, printing costs, and labor. It has also shortened the time between sending and receiving.

Up to this point, most of our emails have been focused on worship with a few updates or announcements included. We know that it has been some time since a newsletter was sent out and part of the reason for this is that we have been thinking about the purpose of our publications.  Specifically, we have been pondering WHO they are members only or the wider community.  In recent months it has been exciting to see how many people are joining us on Facebook for worship!  We realized early on that these folks don't receive a lot of our information as we don't have contact information for them.  This has led us to rethink WHO we are communicating with.

At the same time, we also realize that it has been some time since we thought about HOW we are communicating. Newsletters used to be read primarily as printed copies which made the lengthy articles and multi-column format ideal.  Now, however, more and more people are accessing our communications on computers, smartphones, and tablets, which makes this design more difficult to read.

With that in mind, we are experimenting with a "Weekly Spire" that highlights important information in an easier to read format which can also be posted on our Facebook page and website (just in time for the holidays!).  I hope you find it helpful.

Blessings, Pastor Laurie

Sunday Morning Worship
You are invited to join us for worship in-person or online (on our Facebook page) this Sunday, November 15th, and next Sunday, November 22nd at 10:00 am. Worship is also posted later in the day to our Youtube channel.  Remember, if you miss a service, it is available even if you don't join us at 10.

Advent Worship:
Advent is coming!  We have been busy making plans. In order to develop more meaningful worship experiences for the Advent season, we will be moving to a prerecorded service from Nov 29th to Jan. 3rd.  Prerecording the services will allow us to include special touches each week, including a variety of participants, special images, and song videos. Look for more information in the weeks ahead...and opportunities to participate by submitting photos and videos!

Zoom Coffee Hour
After worship each Sunday (at 11:15 am) you are invited to gather via Zoom for fellowship.  Join your friends (and make new ones) at our Zoom coffee hour.  Links are sent weekly so look for the email with the Zoom link.
Private Prayer
In these challenging times, prayer is essential!  We are trying to open the sanctuary once a week for private prayer. When you enter the sanctuary, you will find a peaceful space with background music to inspire you.  Consider coming away to a quiet place to pray.
Sign up for Private Prayer this Wednesday, November 11th.

Session News
The session (the leadership team of our church) continues to meet each month (currently via Zoom) to discuss plans, needs, and visions for the church and our future.  Over the past several months the session has been discussing how best to care for the congregation during the pandemic.  Please hold the session in your prayers.
In October we discussed much-needed repairs to Andover House which led to a conversation about the future of Andover House.

Stewardship Season is upon us!  This year our theme reminds us that we have been blessed to be a blessing! The church leaders and I continue to be amazed at the way you continued to bless the church with your kind generosity during this extremely challenging year. You are a blessing!  We hope you will consider making a pledge to the church for 2021.

Savoring the Season: Advent Plans
We are getting excited about the approach of Advent!  A whole host of ideas are in the works to keep us connected during this significant season!

As part of Savoring the Season, we are participating in a virtual  One Candle campaign of hope.  We are working on creating yard signs with the one candle logo on them to inspire our community with hope, peace, joy, and love. In addition to the yard sign, we have ordered individual electric candles (safety first!) to display in your window. If you would like to participate in the One Candle campaign, we are asking for a donation of $20 to help defray the cost. Email Pastor Laurie at to reserve your kit.

Another exciting part of Savoring the Season will be an Advent care package! Look for more information to come.
