At 11:30 am on 12/30/17 firefighters from District 19 responded to a house fire in the 2000 block of Stevens with reports of occupants trapped inside. Crews arrived to find a two story residence with fire and smoke coming from the second floor. Firefighters found a male civilian on a ground ladder attempting to locate and remove a fire victim from the second floor of the residence. The man was removed from the ladder. While this was taking place, the crew of Engine 19 began a reset of the fire. The crew of Ladder 19 made entry into the second story window and found themselves in a bedroom. A female was found in the bedroom and rescued. She was transported to the hospital with injuries due to smoke inhalation. The male attempting to help her was also taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation issues. Arson was called to investigate. The cause of the fire is pending.
