Covert Arms is in Houston for firefighter district training on the department’s new ballistic vests. Topics covered will include the ballistic protection specs, care & maintenance, and sizing. HFD will cover policy on when the ballistic protection shall be worn, storage on apparatus (interim and long-term), and the deployment plan for apparatus.
Earlier this year, Mayor Turner and City Council authorized more than a million dollars to purchase ballistic vests for firefighters adding Houston to a growing number of cities buying the vests to better protect firefighters encountering active-shooter or other deadly situations.
