Ice Cream Social This Sunday

Sunday, Sept 18 - Sunday School Ice Cream Social

If you are a new or returning Sunday School student, or are just interested in learning more about Sunday School, bring your parents and join us immediately following the 10:45 AM service in the under a pop-up canopy in the courtyard. We will share information about Sunday School and also sign up interested students. Parents, please consider volunteering to teach or help out in other ways, like the Christmas Pageant!

New Season of Great Music

Welcome to the 2022-23 Season of Great Music at Saint James featuring Classical Sundays at SixThe International Laureates Organ Series and Solemn Evensongs with the Choir of Saint James! Tickets and proof of vaccination are no longer required (although vaccinations and boosters are highly recommended). Masking is optional, and we hope that this season will look and feel much like our pre-pandemic seasons.

Making “live” classical music accessible to all is a hallmark of our mission. Although we will continue to live-stream our concerts and offer them on-demand, we hope you will join us for the emotional excitement that only in-person experiences can provide.

Please make a note of two changes for this season: first, all of our Evensongs on the 2nd Sundays of the month will start at 4:15 PM (instead of 4:30 PM); and second, our Organ Recitals will no longer follow Evensong (with one exception on February 12, 2023). Instead, the International Laureates Organ Series will be presented as part of our Classical Sundays at Six. Please visit GreatMusicLA.org for a schedule and more information.

We have been richly blessed with the support of our many Friends of Great Music at Saint James since its inception over 26 years ago. You have helped us grow into an oasis of musical inspiration in the heart of Los Angeles. Your donation of any amount is most appreciated! Please visit us online at STJLA.org/musicfriends. (Donors of $25 or more will have their names included in our printed programs unless otherwise requested.)

Sages and Seekers

Intergenerational Conversations Program

Sages & Seekers is an intergenerational program that builds meaningful relationships between Sages (adults 60+) and Seekers (students 15-24). This 7-week program is an opportunity to share your life experience with an interested listener. This forum engages participants in a thoughtful examination of how life is lived and how personal challenges are overcome. By sharing your story, students develop a greater appreciation of the elderly and their legacies. Both generations discover commonalities and shatter stereotypes they have of one another.

Why participate in Sages & Seekers?
  • Socialize weekly with others
  • Help diminish ageism
  • Feel a reinstated sense of relevance
  • Improve cognitive brain function
  • Transfer knowledge, life lessons, and values to the next generation

We Believe

New Class Begins in the Fall

In almost all of our services we say The Creed, an ancient statement of Christian beliefs.  In this class we'll be taking a look at each part of The Creed - what does it mean, why is it in the Creed, and exploring how some parts of The Creed may be challenging to the modern ear.

If you've ever wondered why this prayer has survived for so many centuries and what it all means for us today, or if you're considering Confirmation or Reception into the Episcopal Church, please join us!

We'll be meeting Sunday mornings from 9:30-10:15 in the Parish Hall starting Sunday, October 9.  For more information, please email Mother Kate (kcress@stjla.org) or Father Jon (jfeuss@stjla.org).
