Welcome – Bienvenido – Bienvenue

Welcome to the second edition of The Adolescent Girls Investment Plan’s (AGIP’s) external newsletter.

We are truly grateful for the interest you show in our work. This edition includes three exciting opportunities to engage with us: (1) join us to advance shifting power and resources to adolescent girls and youth-led organisations within the GEF process; (2) explore ways to engage with our new strategy and member development approach; and (3) find out more about a new project we will launch this October, our Community of Practice.

We look forward to connecting with you on any relevant topics!

French and Spanish .pdf translations are now accessible. We will continue to work on making these available in our newsletter format – please bear with us whilst we grow our skills in this area.

In solidarity,

The Adolescent Girls Investment Plan (AGIP)

On 7th July 2022, the Adolescent Girls Investment Plan (AGIP) and Plan International, together with adolescent and youth leaders, hosted an intergenerational dialogue with Action Coalition leaders titled Generation Equality Forum, One Year On: Shifting Power and Resources to Adolescent Girls and Youth-led Organisations.

The invite-only, intergenerational dialogue aimed to explore what ‘good’ accountability for the implementation of the commitments made through the Generation Equality Forum (GEF) process looks like to girls. Participants discussed in detail what more could be done to implement commitments to urgently shift resources and power to young feminist and girls’ rights organisations and movements. Crucially, we aimed to curate a space to coalesce around opportunities and solutions – such as The Girls’ Fund – for accelerating these shifts.

Our summary report, which amplifies the voices of adolescent girls and young leaders who participated, is now live . We hope that the recommendations and demands from adolescent girls and young leaders shared in this event will continue to shape the inclusion of girl and youth leaders in the GE process as it moves forward. To advance this agenda, AGIP is specifically looking to connect and collaborate with AC leaders and like-minded organisations. We aim to hold a first convening meeting in October/November 2022. Please reach out to Johanna Schulz, AGIP Project Manager, if this is of interest.

Update on AGIP's New Strategy and Governance Model + how to engage

In March 2022, AGIP’s Board approved our new strategy: 'Girls on the agenda and at the table’. Our refreshed objectives will see us leverage our collective strength to influence global decision-making spaces and advocate for increased investments, commitments, and accountability with and for adolescent girls and youth. We will also draw on our unique members’ technical expertise to generate, collate, and share evidence and resources informed by lived experience, demonstrating ‘what works’ with and for adolescent girls and youth. Our approach to meaningful girl and youth engagement and safeguarding underpins everything we do. Check out this strategy overview to learn more.

We are also currently in the process of reviewing our coalition structure, governance, and decision-making processes to better reflect our commitment to DEI and enable us to deliver on our goals. As we continue to strive for equitable and consistent member engagement and development, we will once again be looking to expand and diversify our membership. We will host an opportunity to connect with any organisation interested in exploring ways to engage with AGIP in a more sustained way come September/October 2022. Please reach out to Florah Muchiri, AGIP Comms and Membership Officer, if you are interested in joining us.

New Strategy

Launch of the Community of Practice

AGIP will be launching a Community of Practic (CoP) open to AGIP members as well as organisations working in thematic areas focussing on adolescent girls (11-19 years old). The CoP will be a space for like-minded thematic practitioners come together to discuss challenges, share learnings and achievements, exchange resources, and collectively build better practices to enable the leadership of adolescent girls. The desire to build and host a CoP is a result of AGIP members and partners wanting to share their range of expertise and networks to foster mutual learning and promote working in partnership.

The CoP will work to achieve AGIPs strategic ambition: ‘adolescent girls on the agenda and at the table’ by advancing topics such as but not limited to safeguarding, meaningful girl and youth engagement (MGYE), and participatory research practices. Our first session is due in October - will share more information via this mailinglist closer to the time.
