Report Launch

Investing in adolescent girls: Key changes in the bilateral donor funding landscape - 2021 update.

Last year we launched our research Investing in Adolescent Girls: mapping global and national funding patterns from 2016-2020’. We are excited to share an update to the research conducted by the Gender and Adolescence Global Evidence (GAGE) programme that maps changes in the funding landscape for adolescent girls from 2020-2021, as well as the sectors and populations targeted for investment and those that are falling behind. The report also provides an up-to-date donor data considering recent cuts in official development assistance (ODA) and funding changes brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic, in order to track how much money is flowing to girls and in which SDG domains.

Join us on 19th September 2023, together with GAGE, as we will highlight the continued imperative need to increase investments and accelerate progress for and with adolescent girls.

In solidarity,

The Adolescent Girls Investment Plan

Investing in adolescent girls can bring significant returns. There are currently 1.8 billion young people between the ages of 10 and 24 years globally, and most of them (90%) live in low-and middle-income (LMIC) countries.

In order to understand the unique challenges faced by adolescent girls in particular, and effectively deliver on the Agenda 2030’s promise to leave no one behind, robust and disaggregated data collection efforts that capture inequalities faced by adolescents are paramount to drive smart investment. In addition, at the halfway point to SDGs there is an urgent need for a detailed and up-to-date understanding of funding to support the wellbeing of girls. If the SDGs are to be achieved, it is vital that adolescent programming is appropriately funded to ensure that specific sectors and populations are not left behind.
