About a year ago I was given a hard shell 4-wheel hand luggage bag and I haven’t looked back. Not only do you reduce strain on your back, but you don’t arrive at your gate sweaty and hot. I put all the items I’m not likely to need into the zip up half and the others that I will need in the loose section for easy retrieval. I then have a zip up bag with all my ‘in seat’ necessities – moisturizer, snacks, eye mask, socks, pens, lip balm and disinfectant wipes (crucial – have you ever watched documentaries on how plains AREN'T cleaned) I then have a very small ‘clutch style’ over the shoulder handbag with my very important and regularly needed items like passport, bank cards, earphones, phone and luggage keys so that they are easy to access and I can have my bag with me at all times.
Sleeping in airports is a great website that tells you what airports have lockers/ lounges (their rates and amenities) hotels/ other useful info and showers (I only fly through certain airports when flying long haul because I know where the showers are and how to get to them and I can book in advance) with the info from this website I have been able to leave my bags and go into town for a shopping spree and turned a dreaded 10hour layover into a mini adventure. I’ve booked lounge passes and been able to catch a few zzzzz as well.
