This Giving Tuesday, support programs that empower, uplift and engage low-income youth, adults & families right here in Alameda County.

Dear Friend,

We know there are hundreds of worthy causes vying for your attention today. But we hope you’ll consider investing locally -- because there are people right here in Alameda County who desperately need your support.

Make the short drive from Downtown Oakland to East 14th Street in the unincorporated parts of the County and you’ll see evidence of years of disinvestment: vacant lots, a dearth of green spaces, and far too many run-down storefronts. Historically, these neighborhoods have had few recreational opportunities and not enough safe spaces for community-building.

DSAL provides free boxing, soccer, dance, fitness, and leadership to thousands of local kids and adults in these neighborhoods. Our staff and Deputies have built a boxing gym, fitness facilities, and a turf soccer park with their own hands, turning unused space into community hubs. For the area’s many low-income residents, kids’ sports or adult fitness classes would be impossible without us.

But DSAL does even more. We work with the Sheriff’s Office to strengthen relationships between law enforcement and the community. We help amplify the voices of local people advocating for justice and equality. We bolster neighborhood pride with murals, festivals, and arts projects; foster entrepreneurs; grow fresh produce on urban farms, and provide internships for formerly incarcerated minors and adults.

This Giving Tuesday, give back right here.
