It has been a monumental week for fashion with the highly anticipated debut of Virgil Abloh's first Louis Vuitton menswear collection.

On March 26 2018 it was announced that Virgil Abloh would be the new creative director of Louis Vuitton menswear. This news was met with mixed reviews, the biggest fear being that he would turn Louis Vuitton into a streetwear brand like OFF -WHITE.

The American - Ghanaian designer did not disappoint on Thursday with one of the most important, inclusive and emotional runways there has ever been. The significance of him being the first black man to be at the helm of Louis Vuitton's menswear was not lost on him. He used 56 models from different ethnic backgrounds and different creative backgrounds like skate culture, the art world, and hip-hop artists to usher in the new era of Louis Vuitton.

Emotions were very high at the end of the show. There were many tears when Virgil stepped on the runway . It was obvious at that moment that this moment was bigger than him as a individual and marked a shift in the fashion world. Because of Virgil, being apart of the high fashion realm became a more attainable dream for black people everywhere.

“I don’t call myself a designer, nor do I call myself an image-maker, I don’t reject the label of either. I am not trying to put myself on a pedestal, nor am I trying to be more, now. I would like to define the title of Artistic Director for a new and different era.”
