It looks like Old Man Winter has arrived, so please make sure your student is dressing for the weather! Students go outside for recess every day, unless it is raining or -10 degrees!!  Thank you for making sure your student is ready to safely enjoy Alaska’s great outdoors!
So, many exciting things going on . . . please take the time to read through this issue of the Raven’s Caw. Parent Teacher Conferences are this week, as well as our annual PTA Fall Harvest Festival, and we hope to see you here for both!  Our students are busy, busy, busy with many school extra-curricular activities being sponsored by our staff and PTA, including: Explorers Club, Drama Club, Hand Chimes, Choir, Student Council, Coding and Robotics, and Battle of the Books.  Starting next month, we will be offering Bricks 4 Kidz clubs for K - 6, too. Ravenwood is definitely a “happening, happy place!”
Next week, we will have our first quarter Awards Assemblies to recognize students some of our students and their achievements this first quarter.  If you receive an invitation, we hope you will be able to come and celebrate with us.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, you can call, email, or drop by to talk with me.

Playaways, Pirates, and Book Fair, Oh My!
New adventures await at the Ravenwood Library.
Playaway Audiobooks
The library is fortunate to have audiobook devices called Playaway. Similar to an MP3 player, each device contains a single audio book. These devices are available for check out, along with a print copy of the book for students to read along while they listen. Parent/guardian permission is required. Playaway policy and guidelines forms are available and must be returned to the library by interested families before check out. Thank you to our gracious and fabulous PTA for funding these learning resources for our students and staff.
Ahoy there, Matey!
The Scholastic Book Fair is @ Ravenwood Library October 24-28th, during Parent/Teacher Conferences and the PTA Harvest Festival. Ravenwood staff will also have wish lists available at the fair for their classrooms so families can "gift" a favorite book. Come be a "Bookaneer,” where books are the treasure!  Families may shop the book fair in the library OR online by visiting this link:    OR

Thank you to all our students and their families for participating and helping our technology needs and dreams come true!  Congratulations to Mrs. Hunter's and Mrs. Michaud's classes for raising the most funds in their hallways.  All remaining prizes are being distributed this week during conferences.  Contact PTA if you have any questions.

Ravenwood PTA Monthly Update

Dear Ravenwood Families,
The PTA is off to a great start!  First, I want to thank everyone for their participation and efforts.  Our membership has significantly increased, and the amount of volunteer support to the PTA is outstanding.  Daily, I receive emails from both parents and teachers offering to help the PTA in various ways: volunteer time at events, baking goods for Harvest Festival, or leading a PTA committee.  We are thankful for everyone’s contribution towards making Ravenwood the best school possible.
Our fundraising efforts are off to a wonderful start.  The entire school participated in Trek for Tech, and the PTA raised over $23,000.00 to improve the technology throughout the school!  The PTA will work closely with the staff to prioritize and purchase new technology for the school.  The write-a-check campaign is still ongoing.  The money received from this fundraising effort is used to fund the PTA’s yearly budget, which is separate from its efforts to upgrade the technology throughout the school.
October is going to be exciting month at Ravenwood.  The Box Top challenge ends on October 14, and the winning class will be announced on October 27.  The Book Fair starts on Wednesday, October 26, and it last for three days.  Finally,  Harvest Festival is on Friday, October 28, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm--costumes are encouraged.  Harvest Festival tickets can be purchased at starting on October 7 and at the PTA office.
Again, thank you for all of your support.  The PTA looks forward to continuing to have a great year!

Take Care,

Brad Carlson
PTA President
