Bonnie's Column
The next time I win an Oscar®...
I was watching the Academy Awards®, thrilled to see Jamie Lee Curtis win Best Actress in a Supporting Role. In her acceptance speech, she proclaimed, "I am hundreds of people. WE just won an Oscar!" And it made me realize what I would say the next time I win an Oscar.
As the face of ArtAge, I know it may look like I am here by myself, but really we are "hundreds of people." With me, are all the staff (wonderful Carolyn, Zoe, Hazel, and others) who work daily to give prompt, personalized service. It's the tech team who keep us up and running, the printers who deliver our materials on time in clean, lovely books, the Post Office carrier who speeds purchases on their way to you! It's the 216 playwrights who have shows in the collection, which now includes over 500 pieces. It's the many directors who select our plays and the hundreds of actors who perform them, around the world.
Most recently, it feels like "hundreds of people" also helped to launch our redesigned website. We had consultants and developers in Oregon, Washington, Arizona, California, and one technology whiz in Pakistan—each bringing a different skill to the project. Then there were the Senior Theatre volunteers who tested the site and helped us iron out the wrinkles. It would not have been possible without them.
Redesigning the website was a year-long process, so we can't wait to share it with you. We hope you’ll find it easier to discover plays, information, and the resources you need to bring your theatrical dreams to life. Like all websites, the work is never done, and I encourage you to share your thoughts and feedback with how it is working for you (or not). Click here to take a survey—and save $5!
My personal "hundreds of people" are my devoted husband, friends, and family who have supported and encouraged my career in this wonderful, stimulating field.
I encourage you to think of your Senior Theatre "hundreds of people" too--from your sponsor, to the directors, actors, audience members and the support staff who helps you bring the plays to the stage. Now is a great time to think of them and be grateful for all of the work they do.
Together with ArtAge, we are "Thousands of people" all working to help older adults fulfill their theatrical dreams! So when you watch Jamie Lee Curtis’ acceptance speech, share the moment with her and all of the people who help us win our own Oscars, every day!
Yours in Theatre,

Bonnie L. Vorenberg

"Kudos to Gary Young, the author of Love in 4/4 Time.
His background as a pastor and a hospice chaplain are evident in how he handles the characters and topic of Alzheimer's Disease.
It takes a certain amount of courage to consider performing this play. It is both educational and entertaining; funny and poignant."

You Sir, Don't Deserve This Sandwich is a laugh out loud comedy about a dining experience that goes off the rails. A lively show that can be staged as a radio show, too. It's one of the funniest pieces we've read in a long time. We think you'll love staging this show!
