Dear UUCJ Family,

I hope you are faring well, or as well as can be expected, during this weird time in all our lives.  While many of us are retired, I also know that there are a number of you who are "essential workers", and I want to thank you for doing your jobs while you struggle with (probably) home schooling, preventing the coronavirus from entering your home, and all the other issues which consume your days. My heartfelt thanks to Reverend Marti and Reverend Roberta for their huge efforts to maintain contact with the congregation, and provide us with opportunities to get together virtually.

While all of this has been happening, and consuming a lot of our attention and energy, your Board has been grappling with a different issue -- a budget that is not supported by our projected income. You may recall that the 2020 budget was passed by the congregation at the December 2019 congregational meeting. That budget projected $217,000 in pledge income, and included a "transfer" of the entire Board Reserve fund -- $59,000 in order to balance. It was an aspirational budget, at the least. However, we now know we have only $197,000 in pledges for the 2020 church year. With that shortfall, the Board is even more concerned about using the entire Board Reserve fund to balance the budget, because that leaves us with no cushion in the event of an emergency. We had been considering going back to the congregation for a second pledge "ask", but we don't think that is feasible at this time.

To help the Board make decisions about an alternate budget, we will be having a Zoom (virtual) meeting with the Board, Committee Chairs, our ministers, and the Transition Team to discuss options. We will be looking at where we can cut or trim items from the budget, as well as possible ways to increase our income. This meeting is scheduled for Saturday, April 4, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Members of the congregation are invited to listen to the discussion, via Zoom.

Below is the Zoom invitation. If you have a "smart" device (computer, tablet, or smart phone), you can click on the meeting link in the invitation. If you do not have one of these devices, I believe you can call in to the phone number listed from any telephone to listen to the conversation (I've  never tried this, and don't know how it works.)  Please note: our Zoom license allows only a maximum of 100 participants in any meeting. I doubt we will reach that maximum, but it is possible. If you can't get in, my apologies:
