11:00 a.m. Online Zoom Worship Service

Worship Service
Paul Johnson, “A Many-Splendored Thing”

On Valentine's Day I'll take up, as the song phrases it,  “nature's way of giving a reason to be living.” Our word “love” is an umbrella to convey a plethora of heart feelings. The Greek of the Christian New Testament has four words and I have read that the ancient Persian has eighty words and the ancient Sanskrit ninety-six words to differentiate all of the aspects of this complex emotion.  So, I'll do my best to come up with a “many-splendored sermon,“ and I'd “love” to have you join me.    Rev. Paul

This curriculum was developed by Rev. Dr. Richard Gilbert, minister emeritus of the First Unitarian Church of Rochester, NY, who claims that “religion is that core of ultimate meaning, values, and convictions out of which we live our lives….theology is the intellectual process of analyzing, clarifying, criticizing, articulating, and symbolizing those values, meanings, and convictions that grow out of experience.”

Topics included will be personal religious odyssey, liberal religious experience, ultimate reality, human nature, ethics, and personal credo.  It will be helpful to attend all sessions but everyone is welcome to attend as many as possible.

We had a good discussion last Monday on Lisa See’s The Island of Sea Women. Next month we will discuss How Not to Die Alone by Roger Roper, a debut novel about love, loneliness, and taking a chance when we feel we have the most to lose. It is a smart and darkly funny story for fans of Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. We welcome anyone affiliated with UUCJ to become a new member of our group. If you want to join us, please email Barbara Robinson at The book for April is Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens.

Join the Playing with Ideas group via Zoom every Sunday 9:30-10:45 a.m.

Why take a chance?

Much has been written about the potential toxicity of the weed-killer “Roundup,” which contains glyphosate. Why not make your own, which works pretty well.

Here is the formula:
2 cups vinegar
1 Tbsp. salt
2 Tbsp. Dawn dish detergent
Make a ½ gallon at a time, and pour into a spray bottle and use as needed.
