Special Collection: Family Promise

Family Promise of Jacksonville is a nonprofit organization with the goal of helping homeless families return to self-sufficiency by obtaining employment and permanent housing.  Our speaker will be Beth Mixson, development director for Family Promise.  She will give us some valuable insights into the problem of homelessness in Duval County especially as it has been impacted by the pandemic.  She will give us further information explaining  the  many ways that Family Promise assists homeless families.

UUCJ Birthdays

We are celebrating with these members who have birthdays next week: Jeff Funderburk, on Sunday, 3/21; Roger Wenner, on Monday, 3/22; and Cyd Reider, on Wednesday, 3/24. Please give each of our congregants a call or send a card.

Arlington Community Services Update

Keep up the Good Work!

We delivered 158 pounds of groceries on Monday, putting our YTD total at 1504 lbs.  Marion Hines’s cash donation funded one-third of the donation, with Cyd Reider coming in with 55 lbs. on Wednesday morning. Thanks to those who have given cash donations to ACS.  Your stimulus check may be arriving this week—several UUCJ members who were able to donate those funds have donated portions of stimulus checks in the past.

Current needs: saltines, pasta meals, pop-top soup, tomatoes, fruit juice, sardines, tuna in pouches, gravy, Hamburger Helper.  We are also in need of small toiletries for the homeless bags. Continue to be safe and blessed!

Caring Candles

Joyce Milford had right shoulder rotator cuff surgery on March 4, 2021. She started physical therapy this week.  Best wishes for a complete recovery.

Marsha Collins fell on March 13, 2021, and was treated in the ER; the CT scan was fine.  Healing wishes go out to Marsha.

O’Leno 2021

O’Leno is April 30th – May 2nd. We will be doing things slightly differently this year. In order to social distance while sleeping , we will have less cabin space for folks. So sign up first if you want to be included!  This year O’Leno  events will be scaled back slightly as we won’t have enough people for big labor intensive meals and we will also need to be COVID Safe. Look for more details and how to sign up soon.
