One thing that distinguishes us at YEP is our commitment to hiring and elevating members of our community -- especially former clients -- to leadership positions. This connection helps us best serve youth, and one of the best examples of this is our dedicated youth counselor Leo Theus.
Leo started his first summer job with YEP in his freshman year of high school. Starting at the Arroyo Viejo recreation center, he then worked summers with Team Oakland beautifying our streets and joining forestry field trips to learn about the East Bay's natural beauty.
He continued working part-time with YEP as he attended Merritt Community College up through graduating with his bachelors degree in graphic design at CSU East Bay. Leo stepped up to become a full-time counselor after college and now leads the same programs for hundreds of youth that he was once a participant in.
YEP is proud to regularly elevate local leaders like Leo to staff positions, and we are grateful for his 10 years of service and dedication. Thank you for your support of Oakland youth and leaders like Leo.
