Dear Members,

I don’t want to jinx it, but it appears winter may finally be winding down!  Spring is the air….buds are appearing on the trees, flowers are starting to push their way through the soil and children are starting to spend more time at the play ground.  I am starting to plan family trips for the next few months to include the Keukenhof gardens and a road trip through Italy where we may “accidentally" stumble upon Nove for some shopping.

Our “Moonlight Masquerade” Gala was an amazing event…..nearly 200 friends, wonderful food, great music, enchanting dancers and over $12,000 raised for WCSC Scholarships!  Huge thanks to Ginny Waller and her crew of Gala volunteers….we couldn’t have done it without you!  To all of our generous donors and auction winners- Thank You!!!

I hope to see you all at the GAIWC Spring Bazaar, which will be Saturday March 18th 1000-1700.  This event is a flea market with many opportunities to shop and eat, bring your families and make a day of it.  If you would like to bake a cake to donate- we will be collecting the cakes on Friday March 17th, times and locations will be posted on the WCSC Members page.

Please check out our Activities list, there are so many great trips coming up including Poland!  Our Special Events Chair, Sue Pulley, has some wonderful family friendly events planned to include Mommy and Me High Tea and a Ladies Shopping night at the Thrift Shop.

Please mark your calendars for the Annual German-American International Women’s Club (GAIWC) Spring Bazaar on Saturday 18 March, at the Kurhaus Kolennade (the long white building to the left of the Kurhaus) in Wiesbaden, beginning at 10.

The GAIWC is asking for our support of this event in the form of American baked goodies for their Cafeteria. The Germans are IN LOVE with our boxed baked cakes, brownies, and especially our canned icing! So, don’t go to a lot of trouble by making a cake or other baked goodie from scratch, bake a boxed cake, brownie, or other easy to bake goodie, ice it with canned icing and donate it to this amazing event!  Make sure to place it in a disposable container that does not need to be returned to you. If you would label the item you bring, that would be awesome!

The baked goodies can be dropped off on Friday, 17 March, from 10-12 at several locations.  In Aukamm housing, they may be dropped off at the WCSC Clubhouse at, Weuttembergstr. 2. In Hainerberg housing, they may be dropped off at, Floridastr. 5, Apt. 1, Building 7757. In Newman Village, they may be dropped off at, Kroesen Loop 4.

If you are unable to drop off your goodie on Friday, you may bring it to the bazaar on Saturday and drop it off at the Cafeteria.  You all will want to make sure to come out in support of this event, there is great shopping and wonderful treasures to be found!  Along with prizes to be won, sekt to drink, and of course, to have a sweet goodie, at the Cafeteria!

For more info contact Deborah Casey @ 0160-785-1708.
Scholarships
The Scholarship Application process is closed and that notifications will go out in early April to everyone who submitted.
Helllooo again Dahhhlings! This month I want to address an unfortunate, but evident situation I am certain that we all deal with on a daily basis.  It has become such an accepted practice I fear that many may no longer even consider what a faux pas it truly truly is! A sweet dear wrote exclaiming that she is up to her ears (no pun intended!) with such offending behavior. Read on...
Dear Priscilla,
I'VE HAD IT!! I CAN'T TAKE IT ONE MINUTE MORE!! I get it, I get it!! EVERYONE has a CELL PHONE these days but WHY do I have to be subjected to their EVERY CONVERSATION? It is making me crazy! Please, please enlighten those who haven't figured out yet that we are all tired of their constant CELL YELL!
Signed,
(NOT) Listening Laurie

Dahling Laurie, Hear, hear now...er, sorry! I meant listen up! Um, er, I HEAR YOU!!

I know that many, and most of us, just have to have that little accessory beside ourselves at all times. I know, I know, and I, too, am beyond weary of hearing other person's private, made public, conversations! Today it seems that the whole world is a phone booth that we are all sharing at the same time!! A dear friend was just relating a story of her day spent in her doctor's office waiting room, all the while, being treated to the details of another patient's current (un)healthy condition while also overhearing the intimacies of another's impending nasty divorce!

Bon, in this instance, Miss Pris consulted and will share guidance from a true etiquette pro, Bibs Reynard, the author of The Once Over Lightly: A Practical Look at Protocol ...
And I quote: " Cell phones are great but using them at social events, in conference or classrooms, at sports activities and theaters, is not. At their most valuable, cell phones allow us to report emergencies and keep in touch. Using them for social conversations ( especially in close proximity to others or while driving) can be both distracting and dangerous. If you are attached at the hip (or LIP!) we think the MOST considerate way to deal with your cell phone "in public" is to put the phone on vibrate, excuse yourself and find an appropriate ( i.e. private ) area to carry on the conversation."

Ainsi Medames, there it is! Straight from l'expert of all things proper!
Je suis certain that there are, and will be, times that we all MUST take or make a call. Just remember to be gracious while doing so! And dear Laurie, as much as I would like to say that perhaps kindly voicing your disapproval at the CELL YELL would solve the matter, I am afraid that is most likely not the case. I will share a tip from my own book of sorts, next time you encounter such ghastly behavior, take out your own phone and simulate that you are turning it off or turning it down and then remove yourself from the situation, as in a seat across the room! Let's do hope that they will notice and reciprocate in kind.

Until next time,
Always Yours,
Priscilla
Do YOU have a protocol or military etiquette question for Priscilla?  Just email her at prisproper@gmail.com and check back for her reply next month!
