Dear Members,

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving, whether you spent it at home or traveling.  I spent the weekend decorating my apartment for the Holidays, there is something magical about a beautifully decorated tree and twinkling lights that always puts me in a great mood.  As we prepare for the "countdown to Santa" my family is also preparing for my parents to come to town.  I can't wait to take them to Christmas markets and show them the joys of Europe during December.

Thank you all for your generosity at our annual WCSC Wreath and Tree Auction.  We were able to raise nearly $5,000 which will go directly back into our community through Welfare Grants and Scholarships.  Speaking of Scholarships, the application is now available on our website.  Special thanks to our wonderful auctioneer, Paul "The Brit" Hughes, who took time out of his last week at AFN to join us.

Whatever your plans are this holiday season, I hope you take a moment to pause and reflect on how blessed you are.  I am so fortunate to have met so many great friends, I am thankful to have my husband home with us this year, and I am blessed to have my WCSC family.  I look forward to seeing you all at the December Dessert Auction, our Board is working hard to ensure each dessert is amazing.

With all of the hustle and bustle, please remember the reason for the season.  Invite those living in the barracks into your home for a meal, donate your time to make a difference in our community, embrace the young spouses alone for the first time, and please keep our military men and women in your thoughts as they protect our country.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,
Alicia Bailey

Priscilla Proper

Hello dahhhlings! An adorable gal recently wrote asking for guidance on dress codes here in Wiesbaden and as the holidays are in full swing this seemed to be a perfect time to address the matter! Read on lovelies...
Dear Ms Proper,
I am writing to ask you to help simplify the numerous dress codes I have been encountering on various invitations. I am usually rather fashionable but would appreciate your expertise on what to wear, when and where. I'm so confused! Is it white gloves and nylons ( please tell me no!) or is it Daisy Dukes and a crop top ( I think I prefer the white gloves!) or is there something in the middle that I can typically rely upon? Please advise.
Felicia Fashionista

Dearest Fifi!
There, there dahhhling, let's not get our temples in a tether! Normally, I detest having to address such elementary questions but I understand your quandry! I too, have been confused at times, but always refer to my favorite military protocol sourcte by Babs Reynard, "Once Over Lightly". Grab a copy if you ever have bon chance'!
Let's start at the beginning....

*CASUAL:  pants, skirts or even a simple dress. You'll be most comfortably dressed in this manner at your unit coffee. I'll even go so far as to say, that EVEN BLUE JEANS are acceptable if the function is a very casual event, western-wear theme OR if the hostess has declared that
" denim is a do" and "less is more". Otherwise, dahhhling, leave the Levi's at home.

*INFORMAL:  a tad more foo'foo than your casual khakis, my love. Do show up in nice slacks, separates, a pantsuit, a skirt or nicer dress for this occasion. If you're invited to a brunch, or a luncheon, your best bet would be to work within this daywear. Occasionally, themes, programs and special events may suggest a distinct attire option and that would make all the difference. Notice, I did not say DENIM. I personally do not mind being called "old fashioned" ( well, leave out the OLD part!) but it truly is best to save the "cute" denim look for another time and occasion, soooo sorry, dahhling.

*FORMAL:  My favorit' category! I am just MAD about the most formal of functions! Glam it up and grab the glitz girlie! You certainly want to ensure that you are as wonderfully attired as your escort, non'? Take this one in stride and enjoy fluffing up your fashion! Embrace the opportunity and flaunt your fabulousness!

How's that my dahhhling? I know you may be wondering, "what about this and what about that?" There will always be room for style and comfort and most often, your lovely host/hostess will designate such detail on the maaahvelous invitation you receive! Try to remember that no matter what you wear, it is ALWAYS proper to be more gracious than perfect!

Until next time,
Daahlings! do you have a protocol question for our Priscilla Proper? Just email her at  and check back next month for her answer.
