End of Year Challenge - I Love Music

Music is, or has been, a part of our lives at some time or another. The Club's End of Year Challenge for 2019 was to produce an image (or images) that depicted music that had either special memories or significant meaning for Club members.
Judges Caroline Hope and Don Pittham were both intrigued and impressed by the fifteen entries displayed for their deliberation. From Country and Western  to Classical, from The Beatles to Bing via AC /DC the images submitted seemed to span the full spectrum of the music scene.
In some cases the photographic interpretation was a straight forward depiction of a song title by an image - Ike and Tina Turner's 'River Deep Mountain High' was represented by a well captured landscape. Other entries approached the Challenge along different lines. A technically impressive submission happily plagiarised, all be it  with a slight twist from the original,  the artistic sleeves of some golden oldies from the vinyl age.  Some images seemed to have little linkage to the named song or music until the photographer explained the connection - for one member an abstract keyboard image brought back memories of her father playing Boogie Woogie style music on the family piano while for another entrant a composite angling scene combined with Bing Crosby and Louis Armstrong's rendition of 'Gone Fishin'' was  his expression of  what constitutes absolute bliss! Some photographs were more impressionistic in content - the lines and movement of a ferris wheel captured during a long exposure and titled 'Electric Rhythm' was very successful. Still Life photography was not omitted with a most competent depiction of a hand of cards referencing  the song 'The Gambler'.
The judges were appreciative of the amount of effort that had gone into the production of the majority of the entries. Perhaps the one exception to this was the submission of a bust with a modified ear but lacking any photograph of any kind - musical or otherwise. To considerable laughter the photographer explained that his entry depicted 'A Good Ear for Music' and that he had "constructed" his entry early that morning.  This brought considerable relief to the previously mystified judges who then happily disqualified the entry for lacking any element of photography!
The judges were also very happy to present the top award of The Challenge to Kathy Pantling. Kathy's large and most successful environmental portrait of a dedicated clock collector amongst his "treasures" together with her story of her meeting with him and the associated music 'If I only had Time' made her a most worthy winner. Congratulations and well done to all those who took part in the 2019 Challenge.   Author Don Pittham

Works perfectly with a 70 to 120mm Elmo lens.No remote. 1 un-boxed magazine and photocopied instructions included. Lens works on rack and pinion rather than coarse screw.
