WHAT'S HAPPENING WITH THE COOP

              EPIC SALE !!!

We are having a spectacular sale this Saturday November 24 from 9am - 6pm at the Coop.  10% OFF storewide for MEMBERS. 20% OFF dry goods and 50% OFF selected items.  We are celebrating BUY LOCAL DAY (instead of Black Friday). We look forward to all members stopping by to purchase some deals and help the Coop get inventory ready for next year.

AT THE STORE

Try a new kind of squash.  Striped Delicata cook up fast and you can even eat the skin.  Billy of Moondance Farms says you can also eat the skin of that bumpy looking Black Futsu. He suggested cutting along the segments to make slices to roast. Yum!

Well-fed Farms provides us with the last creamy white parsnips.  Cooked up and mashed with olive oil or butter, they are delightful.

Brussels Sprouts from Moondance Farm.

Radicchio from Moondance Farm.  So delicious in salads or lightly grilled!

SURVEY RESULTS

The November Survey was answered by 58 members!  Thanks to all of you who took the time to give us feedback.  A full report is available on the website.   In summary, the most popular reason you support the Coop is that it is democratically run, followed closely by its support of local farmers.  55% of you are willing to increase your purchasing by $5-25$ a week.  (If you all  do this, it will be a huge help, thanks!).  The most popular suggestions to motivate shopping more were to add bulk items and keep produce fresh.  51% of you did not know about our pre-order bulk buying, so we need to get the word out! The location of the store was a critical factor for about 25% of members.  In regards to whether there are too many other options in town, about 66% felt that there is definitely room for the Coop to be a choice for shoppers.  About half of the respondents thought a café or prepared food would be important to have, but maybe not essential at this time.

BULK FOODS

In order to provide members with the choice to purchase in bulk, we have started a bulk-buying program.  There is a notebook at the checkout desk that you may look through and add your name and the amount you will purchase to an item listed.  Bring your suggestions and we will add them!

The preferred option of having bulk bins on the premises is a long-term goal.  The few bins we had previously did not meet the Health Department requirement for cleaning.  In order to invest in suitable bins, we will need to do some fundraising.  But it is definitely something that members and the board feel strongly about and want to make it happen!

The Coop is governed by a five-member Board of Directors who represent you.  Our Bylaws allow us to have up to nine directors, so there are opportunities to serve.  If you have any comments or questions, we'd love to hear from you. board@anacortesfoodcoop.com.

The membership meeting on Nov. 10th was attended by eleven members. There was good discussion about what is needed to continue in the future.

Follow us on Facebook! If you like what we post please share with your friends to help spread the word about the Coop. Thanks for being great, we owe our success to you, Anacortes.
