Womens History Month
Sign up for a NASA Expert Virtual Visit: Women's History Month
NASA's Digital Learning Network will be celebrating women's history by featuring some of the amazing women that work at NASA. Each of the 45-minute programs focus on a female that leads an agency at NASA and how they began their career. The series begins on March 8, 2017 and occurs once a week for the month of March. Dr. Katherine Johnson awarded Space Grant Distinguished Service Award
Dr. Johnson was a NASA research mathematician and a Presidential Medal of Freedom Recipient, and the recent book and film Hidden Figures follows her and other female African-American mathematicians during their time at NASA. The award was presented by Dr. Stephen Ruffin (Director, Georgia Space Grant Consortium) to her daughters Dr. Joylette Hylick and Katherine Moore on her behalf. The annual Southwest Georgia Regional Model Bridge Building Competition was held on February 25 in Albany, GA at Chehaw Park. This competition provides students an opportunity to solve engineering problems by building a structurally efficient balsa wood bridge. This is an annual competition open to all middle and high school students in Southwest Georgia. For more information or to register for next year click here!
A free screening of the film Hidden Figures was held February 24, 2017 for young women from Atlanta Public Schools (APS).  The Georgia Space Grant Consortium provided NASA lapel pins and information packets from Kennedy Space Center to the students.  The screening was spearheaded by Wilglory Tanjong and Kielah Harbert, co-authors of the book #Admitted and students at Princeton and Washington University.
