BBC Four bares all for Life Drawing Live

Can't wait for our festival in May? Join others across the country in what might be the biggest life drawing session ever! BBC Four has announced a unique and ambitious one-off special art lesson presented by Josie d’Arby that will allow the audience to immerse themselves in the detail, technique and skill of a live life-drawing class.

To coincide with the broadcast of Mary Beard’s Shock of the Nude on BBC Two, Life Drawing Live! will bring a group of artists together for a 120 minute programme where they will be guided by some of the country’s leading life drawing experts whilst the audience watches in real-time as they create their work.

Commissioned with BBC Arts, it will be shot in such a way that offers different artistic perspectives of the real life subjects in order to encourage the audience at home to draw along and experience a real-life drawing lesson alongside the artists in the room.
"The idea that the nation might join together in one huge shared drawing class and all learn from each other in a non-competitive way, is very exciting."

Josie d’Arby, Presenter, Life Drawing LIve

“Life Drawing Live is the perfect accompaniment to Mary Beard’s Shock of the Nude; as we gear-up for this year’s Get Creative, Life Drawing Live will encourage viewers who have been inspired to take their learning further and take part in a unique life drawing experience at home.”

Network and Information Meetings

Get Creative Festival 2019 highlights
Our upcoming series of events around England with the Culture, Health & Wellbeing Alliance and the Age of Creativity have been extremely popular and many are now full. The meetings will promote our shared mission of bringing culture and creativity to everyone through festivals in May.

Click below for booking details and come along to meet other individuals and organisations in your area who are keen to work together to celebrate creativity in May. Some events that are full have a waitlist in operation so places may open up through cancellations.
A network & information meeting will take place in Edinburgh in February, hosted by our partners at Creative Scotland. Again, spaces are limited so please book your place early and join others from Edinburgh and farther afield to discuss how to be part of Scotland's annual celebration of creativity from 9-17 May 2020.

Ahead of the launch of their new ten-year strategy, Sir Nicholas Serota, Chair of Arts Council England, gave an interview in The Guardian in which he stressed the importance of creative participation across the country and the need to recognise the connection between people expressing their own creativity and the work produced by professional artists.
"There’s obviously an idea about the arts which is about it being elitist. In sport they don’t have any difficulty at all in recognising the difference between a knockabout game and the Premier League. They recognise there is the professional game and something they can be involved with on a Sunday morning."
