Today, as Tim Cook looked out over the Apple shareholder meeting, I waved both my hands in the air to get his attention....
This story began when I woke up at 3:05 AM this morning. Mission - get to the Apple shareholder meeting to see Tim Cook. No alarm clock needed...it just seemed like the right time.
I was first to arrive in the parking lot at Apple. I was second in line at the security gate. And then what felt like a few moments later, I was standing up with 1,000 Apple shareholders staring at me at the Steve Jobs Theater. Tim Cook had picked me out of a sea of hands to ask a question.
I told Tim that we're making consumer products from atmospheric carbon.
I asked him about Apple's new 100% recycled aluminum Macbook Air, and how recycling fits into their broader strategy. I was curious about what he had learned building a brand around environmental materials.
Tim explained that Apple is committed to "stop extracting" new materials, to re-use old phones and computers to make new ones. He said Apple is going get to 100% recycled in all its products.
His final words: "I don't know how it's all going to work, but that's where our hearts are". I so admire Tim's ability to stand by his beliefs.
I'm committed to making consumer products from atmospheric carbon. I don't know how it's all going to work. But that's where my heart is.
