If you want to watch this message instead of read it, here's the video.
Tonight I'm hosting a "skill and chill" on climate action and carbon removal. ("skill and chill" is group of friends getting together to talk through a topic...tonight it's me sharing skills on climate action and carbon removal.)
My opening question is "what was your turning point around the changing climate?". That a-ha moment or that moment where you said, "oh wow I need to give this my attention". Maybe you were reading a book, doing some calculations, or watching TV.
My moment was when I was watching the Oscars in 2016. Leonardo DiCaprio got up to claim his Oscar. The first words out of his mouth were "Climate change is real". I was sitting there and that totally blew me away, "Come on, Leo, everybody's heard this, you're telling me we're not making the progress we need to?"
A month after hearing Leo's declaration, I took a leap and went to this great event called "Zero Waste Youth America". It turned out to be my first real life exposure to all this climate stuff -- "sustainability", "climate change", and "carbon emissions". Lots of inspiring work but I didn't see much going on in terms of building products and tech engineering, the stuff I like. I saw an opportunity to get more into products and engineering climate solutions, and followed the thread!
What was your eureka moment?
