Self-sacrifice and Service.
“Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet annointed Solomon king” (ref: 1 Chronicles 16:39)
The words above were sung in Westminster Abbey at the Queen’s Coronation. Starting Thursday many people all over Britain got out their red, white and blue bunting and began the four day celebration of the queen, now the longest reigning British Monarch of all time.
On this blissfully sunny day, I drove through the back roads of Whaddon and then on to Bassingbourn where I was fortunate enough to judge the puddings competition. It was a truly sumptuous occasion and the sun shone. After so much lock down and gloom it was really wonderful to be on the quintessential village green, handing out prizes for the puddings and fancy dress, whilst the brass band followed by other musical talent from the village entertained us all. I reflected how wonderful it is to be welcomed so freely into such a friendly and intimate community. The new pavilion is nearly finished and the inside now gleaming and ready for sports men and women to take full advantage of its changing facilities and well equipped kitchen.
Thinking today about the years of service the queen has given to us all, we can each find inspiration in her example of self sacrifice and service.
Wishing you a wonderful Jubilee weekend, whether you’re a royalist or republican her example of selfless giving is something we can all aspire to. As we come to the weekend of Pentecost we can allow God’s spirit in afresh to refresh us and encourage us to, like her Majesty, give to those around us as we allow God’s grace and hope to fill our hearts and flow out to those around us.
Wishing you a wonderful Jubilee weekend.
Be blessed!
