Week 9 | Term 4 2020

Dear Parents, Carers and Guardians,

Over the past week we have been holding end of year celebration ceremonies to recognise the outstanding achievements of our students. The depth, breadth and diversity of student achievement at Collegiate continues to stand out. It has been wonderful to see students achieving highly across an array of endeavours, and the value and importance of the holistic education that Collegiate offers in order to develop the whole child, was most evident at these events.

Speech Night was again a highlight despite it needing to be done differently this year – thank you to all students, staff and parents who helped to make this event so special for our 2020 Leavers.

Many thanks to Deb Williamson, Rodney Wiggins, Nicole Tuck, Sandy Rogers, David Bird, Lou Bloomfield, Craig Skelly, Deb French, Elspeth Clifford, Ebony Lawless and Tim Innes-Brown for their work with our students in delivering such a wonderful Speech Night ‘movie’ and a memorable event in-person at C3 Church for our community.  Our thanks also go to Mikayla Browne, Jasmine Power, Hannah Erickson, Catherine Gourlay and Ebony Taylor for their technical assistance at Speech Night and our Prize Giving Assemblies.

Our Year 12s have been outstanding leaders of the School this year and their collective efforts will live long in our memories – many thanks again to Head Prefect Clem Harris and Deputy Head Prefects Ella Anderson and Poppy Newton for being excellent role models for all of our girls and young women.  We cannot wait to see what the Class of 2020 go on to achieve!!
2021 Dates
Earlier this week I sent a note to all families regarding the change to Term dates for 2021.  Term 1 will finish Thursday 1 April; Term 2 will commence on Wednesday 21 April for staff with a professional learning day, students will return on Thursday 22 April.
Best wishes for the holiday season
As this is the last edition of the Ancanthe for the year, I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our staff for their tireless work throughout 2020.  Thanks also to the parents of our students for their support of our School, and our children and young people who bring such life and energy to Collegiate. I wish each of you a Happy Christmas, a relaxing break, and every blessing for 2021.

Yours sincerely,
Dr Adam Forsyth
Our Year 12 Leavers at Speech Night
What a fantastic end to 2020! Certainly one to be remembered. Months ago we all thought there would not be a Leavers’ Dinner or a Speech Night. So much effort was put into making sure these events were special for the Leavers of 2020, and they were. Lots of energy was put into farewelling our Year 12s this week, they even finished in Linmor Hall this afternoon with their SMC Chant. All the Middle and Senior School students were there to cheer them on.
It was lovely to attend the Year 4 Time Capsule Burial earlier today. The students will be invited back to the Junior School when they are in Year 12 to open the capsule.
Well done to Stevens House (pictured below) for winning the St Michael’s Collegiate School Cup! This is based on House points awarded thought the year from Carnivals, House Performances and End of Semester Awards results. Congratulations!
Congratulations also needs to go the Rivers House for winning the Sunshine House Cup Trophy. This is based on House Spirit Points throughout the year.
I would like to wish every Year 12 student all the best for their future; they are an amazing group of young women.
Thank you to all the Collegiate Community for being daring and diving right in this year. Wishing you all a safe and blessed Christmas.

Deb Williamson
Deputy Principal
