St. Frances Cabrini Immigration Law Center

We Are Here to Help

This immigration services program started providing service to the community in 2000 under the Vicary for Community Social Service.  In 2009 the program took a big step and partnered with Catholic Charities of Southwest Louisiana and the International Club of Southwest Louisiana. It was established under the name of St. Frances Cabrini Immigration Law Center (St. Frances Cabrini) in 2013. We operate as a nonprofit charitable organization funded by community partnerships, grants, nominal fees, fundraising activities, and tax-deductible contributions to serve and assist the immigrant population in Southwest Louisiana. We will assist all people who come to us, regardless
of their age, their gender, their creed, or their home country of origin.

Our mission is to provide social, educational, and legal services to immigrant families. St. Frances Cabrini provides legal services, information, advocacy, referrals, and support for immigrants on issues relating to immigration, employment, citizenship, and social services. We provide comprehensive, professional, and confidential assistance on visa options, immigration, and citizenship status.

Congratulations!

Ms. Yudania Alvarez Zamora came to the United States with her mother as refugees from their home country of Cuba in January of 2015. Over a year later, when she came to us for assistance, she was able to get a job. As we helped her through the process of getting a green card, Ms. Alvarez Zamora fell in love and married in November of 2016. We congratulate her on her marriage of binding love and wish her smooth travels on her journey to citizenship.

St. Frances Cabrini Reunifies Family Just in Time

Ms. Coliendres Mendoza came to St. Frances Cabrini Immigration Law Center on November 28, 2016.  During her consultation, she explained that her partner was in an immigration proceeding over the Thanksgiving holiday. This is understandably stressful for anyone; however, for Ms. Coliendres Mendoza it was even more so as she was due to deliver her child the following week.  It was imperative that her partner be present in time for the birth of their child.  Shortly after her meeting with St. Frances, we were able to successfully intervene and reunite this family.  The very next day, Ms. Coliendres Mendoza gave birth to a healthy girl.  We would like to congratulate Brayan and Andy on their beautiful child, April, and wish them a blessed New Year.

St. Frances Obtains Relief for Special Immigrant Juvenile Facing Removal

Mr. Felipe came to the United States in July 2016 seeking asylum because he was targeted by gangs due to his Mayan ancestry and physical handicap. When St. Francis Cabrini Immigration Law Center was contacted about his case, Mr. Felipe was scheduled to be removed within the following week. St. Frances Cabrini requested a Bond Hearing and obtained a release for him on humanitarian parole so he can pursue available grounds for relief. He is now in the process of obtaining special immigrant juvenile status, which will allow him to obtain citizenship benefits at a much faster rate.

St. Frances Assists Client in Obtaining Citizenship

Ms. Ana Karina Garcia-Alvear was a permanent resident who came to us in March of 2016 looking to apply for citizenship. She was sworn in as a U.S. citizen on November 10, 2016, and is now registered to learn to be a paralegal. We wish Ms. Garcia-Alvear a happy and blessed New Year as she begins the newest chapter of her life.
