On November 14th from 12:00-2:00pm, DC Mental Health Access in Pediatrics (DC MAP) is launching a two part webinar for pediatric providers to address the mental health needs of LGBTQ youth in primary care and the medical aspects of working with transgender youth. The first presentation titled, Addressing the Mental Health Needs of LGBTQ Youth in Primary Care by Dr. Laura Willing, DC MAP Child Psychiatrist will review basic information regarding LGTBQ health and in what capacities primary care pediatricians will be likely to encounter this patient population. She will also discuss terminology used for both sexual orientation as well as gender identity. The second presentation titled, Medical Care of Transgender Youth by Dr. Lawrence D’Angelo, Director of Youth Pride and Burgess Clinics, will review  the epidemiology of gender dysphoria in youth and pediatric guidelines for the medical care of transgender youth, the differing approaches to medical care for transgender youth, and the path to gender affirming surgery for transgender youth. Children's National Psychiatry Clinical Trials 

 Adelaide Robb, M.D., and a team of psychiatrists and psychologists at Children’s National Health System are conducting research studies with children and adolescents ages 6-17. Current studies include treatments for depression for ages 7-17 and ADHD with symptoms of impulsive aggression for ages 6-12. Good candidates include patients seeking new treatment options or those who may not have insurance. All study-related treatments and evaluations are free of cost and families will receive compensation for time and travel while participating. Patient privacy and confidentiality is assured.
