William Kentridge is a world-renowned South African artist, best known for his prints, drawings and animated films. For the very first time, Norval Foundation will host, Why Should I Hesitate: Sculpture, an exclusive exhibition of Kentridge’s large-scale, never seen before, bronze sculptural work. Zeitz MOCAA will host a survey of Kentridge’s work in drawings, titled, Why Should I Hesitate? Putting Drawings to Work. Both shows open with a series of public events on the weekend of the 24th and 25th of August. More information here.
Aside from the celebration of Woman’s Day on the 9th of August, there are a host of other exciting events taking place from the Robertson Slow Food & Wine Festival, The Winelands Chocolate Festival, and the Klein Karoo Klassique, an arts festival in Oudtshoorn, featuring classical music, local art, food and wine.
At In Residence, we are moving towards making our villas single-use-plastic-free properties, substituting these harmful pollutants with environmentally friendly alternatives. (Single-use plastics are plastics used just once before being recycled such as bags, straws, coffee stirrers, water bottles, and food containers that are harmful to the environment).
We would like to pay tribute to the late singer / songwriter, Johnny Clegg. A true South African hero and pioneer during the Apartheid era, he will be sorely missed by many. A number of local musicians came together to record an amazing tribute that can be viewed here.
Looking forward to welcoming you soon,
See you soon,
Pieter & the In Residence team

Hi, I’m Jess, the managing partner of In Service, a new venture between In Residence and our team. Our mission is to provide our guests and villas with a curated food and beverage service that is a cut from a different cloth.
As a classically trained chef, my approach to food is deliciously simple , focusing on ethically sourced, balanced and (mostly) healthy dishes that capture the flavours of my travels.
I’ve always marched to my own rhythm, so I guess it was no surprise to anyone when at 19, after finishing culinary school, and reading economics at UCT, I started my first business offering part time cooking courses and private chef work.
10 years, numerous continents, and many late nights later that once little side hustle continued to grow and evolve, finally becoming In Service, encompassing food and beverage consulting, food demonstrations and classes and boutique private events. I travel frequently for work and pleasure, cooking and eating my way around the world. Forget the Michelin starred restaurants, you will usually find me at my happiest seated a plastic stool, munching tacos from a street cart in Mexico, slurping hawker noodles in Bangkok, or perhaps trying to grab the best bit of a slow roasted sheep’s head in Morocco, fingers at the ready and tacky with cumin salt.
I look forward to sharing the abundance of Cape Town’s produce with you all, spun into my own unique and slightly quirky menus.
