Introduction to Supervision

This class provides new supervisors, those who aspire to be supervisors, and those seeking refresher skills an orientation to the role of supervision. Self-assessments are provided to help participants compare their current skill levels to those required of a supervisory position.

Effective Interviewing Skills
July 19, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

This workshop is also known as Quality Hiring Practices. This class on effectively interviewing job candidates brings together concepts learned in three pre-work eLearning modules. Learners will bring their completed interview question homework to share for review, directed by a CHR Employment Consultant.

Email Etiquette: Using Email Effectively at Work
July 26, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Email was expected to revolutionize the way we communicate at work. While email has lead to increased productivity, we all might gain from honing our writing skills via email. This class addresses the common challenges with email communication at work and provides guidelines for improving effectiveness.

Communication Skills for Supervisors
August 3, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

This class covers techniques for improving communication with a special emphasis on the relationship between supervisors and their team members. The workshop focuses on areas such as understanding the communication process, giving feedback, and identifying solutions to communication problems. Also open to those who aspire to be supervisors.

July 14, 8:30 am - 12:00 pm

This class is designed to teach leaders how to enhance the effectiveness of their interactions by adapting their approach to people based on what they want to discuss and how they think people will respond. By better meeting the needs of each individual, leaders create higher levels of engagement and organizational results.
(This Management Development Certificate course is targeted for managers in high-level PSS, MSP, or equivalent classifications.)

Boosting Poor Performance
August 17, 8:30 am - 12:00 pm

This course helps leaders build skills in handling chronic performance problems, including using effective interaction skills to conduct the performance problem discussion, provide ongoing support and feedback, and determine when to impose formal consequences.

Disciplinary Process at UCLA
August 23, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Employee discipline requires careful thought, critical documentation and due process. This course will cover UCLA policies and procedures with regard to disciplining employees, with an emphasis on improving performance.

Coaching Using Feedback
August 31, 9:00 am - 11:00 pm

Providing staff members feedback on their work – both for correction and reinforcement – is a cornerstone of good performance management. This two-hour session provides an overview of the importance of providing feedback, gives a step-by-step how-to for giving team members the feedback they need to be successful and engaged in their work.
