Kia ora Kāpiti

Welcome to your latest update from the team at the Kāpiti Coast District Council. Here's what you need to know this week.

Delivering safe and reliable drinking water to our community

Our people work hard all year round to make sure Kāpiti has a safe and reliable water supply. Check out our latest short video to find out more about where our water comes from and what needs to happen before it reaches your tap at the end of the process.

Road safety celebration

The 2019 Orange Day School Patrol Parade was held yesterday, with 266 patrollers from nine Kāpiti schools taking part in the parade. The event is hosted annually by Kāpiti Coast District Council and Police and not only promotes a positive road safety message, but acknowledges the hard work of our local road patrollers by treating them to movies and McDonalds at Coastlands as well. Ka pai!

Storing water in case of an emergency

Water supplies, including drinking water, could be affected in an emergency. It is essential to have a supply of stored water for you and your family to get you through in the event of an emergency. It’s recommended to keep a minimum of three litres of drinking water per person for at least three days, but the more the better. Check out the GetReady website for tips on storing water.

Rates instalment two

A reminder to Kāpiti Coast ratepayers – property rate instalment two is due on or before 5pm, Monday 9 December 2019. Penalties apply if you don’t pay your current property rates instalment by the due date. See our website for more info.

Summer road maintenance

Well-maintained roads are an important part of keeping people safe and we operate a continuous programme of road maintenance and upgrades. Over the summer we'll be carrying out chipseal resurfacing on some of our local roads to help keep them in tip top condition. While we aim to do this work with as little disruption as possible temporary detours are sometimes necessary and delays may occur. For more info about our upcoming chipseal resurfacing programme click here.

Stay and play in Kāpiti this summer

You don’t have to go away to have a blast this summer – stay and play with friends and family! Did you know we have seven different half size basketball courts around Kāpiti for you to practice your hoops on? Check out the locations of these and heaps of other cool stuff to do in Kāpiti this summer on our website.

We want to see your Kāpiti snaps!
