Kia ora Kāpiti

With Christmas just around the corner, we’d like to wish everyone a safe and happy festive season. Everything Kāpiti is taking a break for the next few weeks but we'll be back on 14 January.

Our home, our Kāpiti

“Ko au te Taha Moana. Ko te Taha Moana ko au.”

Watch Kaumātua Koro Don Te Māipi share his thoughts on why our beaches are such special taonga. 🖤 #ourhomeourkapiti

Holiday opening hours

Some of our sites and service centres will have slightly different opening hours over the festive season. To check out the holiday hours of the Council services you use, head to our website.

Kāpiti Road shared pathway

We’re on the final stretch of work to complete the shared pathway down Kāpiti Road. Once completed, the shared pathway will improve traffic flow, safety, and access to the Paraparaumu Town Centre. This week we’ll be pouring concrete during the day and doing road markings overnight, if the weather continues to play ball. We ask you to please take extra care while getting used to the new road layout, and thanks for all your patience during this work.

Aotearoa Bike Challenge

The Aotearoa Bike Challenge is a fun, free competition that’s all about seeing which workplaces can get the most people to ride a bike for just 10 minutes or more. There’s awesome prizes up for grabs, and if you sign up now you’ll also be entered into the Christmas day prize draw, where you could win a shiny new bike!

Check if it's safe to swim this summer

Our rivers and beaches are pretty clean and it’s usually safe for a swim, but sometimes the weather and other things can change that.  It’s easy to check if it’s safe to swim anytime this summer on the Land Air Water Aotearoa (LAWA) website. Just click on your favourite spot on the map, or allow your location to find the closest swimming spots to you. You can use the tool to check out the water quality at all of the best water spots in Kāpiti and around NZ.

Have a go at a waste free summer

We all love summer BBQs with family and friends – but between everyone bringing a packet of sausages and using disposable plates and cutlery, they can generate a lot of waste! Check out our website for our top three tips to make your next BBQ zero waste.
