Kia ora Kāpiti

Welcome to your latest update from the team at the Kāpiti Coast District Council. Here's what you need to know this week.

Voting closes this Saturday!

Postal voting wraps up today for this year's Local Elections but if you haven't voted yet, you’ve still got until midday Saturday to get your vote in to a library or service centre, or you can use our mobile voting service until Thursday. No voting forms? Make a special vote. Check our website for more on where and how to vote.

Playground upgrades

We're upgrading five local playgrounds and we want your votes on what equipment to install! Each of the five playgrounds has two options to vote for based on feedback we received from the community during consultation earlier this year. Head to our website to check out the different options and cast your vote!

Mazengarb/Ratanui Road night works

As part of the work we’re carrying out to improve traffic flow and safety at the intersection of Ratanui and Mazengarb Roads, we’ll be undertaking road maintenance and resurfacing work for four nights starting tonight between the hours of 6pm and 5.30am. Work is weather dependant and if called off, will be rescheduled to the next fine day. Find out more on our website.

Haere mai to our new Kiwis

48 Kāpiti residents officially became Kiwis at a New Zealand citizenship ceremony in Council Chambers last Wednesday. Citizenship ceremonies, which are carried out by our Mayor, are an opportunity for new citizens to publicly declare their allegiance to their new country and for the local community to welcome them on behalf of all New Zealanders. Haere mai to our new citizens!

Land acquisition in Paraparaumu Beach

Last week, Council resolved to acquire two properties at Marine Parade in Paraparaumu Beach. We are already progressing a number of projects which aim to position the area as a hub for visitors and this site provides significant opportunity to support further development. No decisions have been made about how the site will be used and further work on the feasibility of a range of options will now be undertaken. You can read more on our website.

SoundSplash set to make waves!

Our awesome team at Coastlands Aquatic Centre are hosting another SoundSplash event this Saturday, 12 October from 5-8pm. The event is for 8-13 year olds and includes a DJ, underwater photo booth, dunk tank and entry to the spa and hydroslide. Tickets are $6 for entry only or $12 for entry and dinner. Get in quick!
